Are you too old for a bra fitting?

Email

I had a customer this week who came in asking reluctantly for a fitting. She had been encouraged by friends to be fitted properly, for the first time, as they were convinced that she was wearing the wrong size bra.

I asked the usual questions, had she anything in mind, style colour etc and at the same time assessing her size. The ladies reply was ‘ well I am 59 so don’t want any of that frilly lacy stuff, I am far too old for that.’

The lady certainly didnt look 59 she was  average size, pretty, well dressed, good skin, nice hair, she obviously looked after herself. Except for those forgotton breasts, which were very low with quite a sausage-shaped look going on. I explained that by wearing the right size she would look so much better and as I do a fair bit of flashing in the shop I quickly showed her the lacy Aubade number I was wearing and pointed out that if I could wear it at 58 she certainly could at 59.

Into the fitting room and she admitted to wearing a 36B but just picked up whatever she thought was ok and didnt worry too much about it. Thinking if the breasts were covered that was the end of it, fit didnt come into it at all.

She also said she found bras uncomfortable  which was one of the reasons she wasnt really interested in them. This is so common in ladies who have not been fitted properly. If you are wearing the wrong size the bra will move on your body, the shoulder straps will slip and the back of the bra will ride up between your shoulder blades and you will feel generally uncomfortable.

I fitted my customer into a very pretty Aubade bra from their Fleur de Pommier range, she was amazed and immediately fell in love with this beautiful bra and its equally gorgeous matching brief. She then decided a basic T shirt bra would be useful so after trying on a couple of styles she chose our best seller Rive Gauche by Chantelle in a very pretty strawberry colour. Just to be sensible …her words not mine.. she then ordered the T shirt bra in nude to wear under her summer tops.

One very happy lady who could see the immediate difference so much that she left the shop smiling and wearing her new T shirt bra. She stood taller and looked instantly slimmer. The shock of course came when I told her she was not a 36B but in fact a perfect 32D.

Does your age govern what you wear in lingerie as well as outerwear.I would be interested to know your thoughts in the comment box below.

I am 80 years old and my breasts have sagged somewhat. I need a bra that has long straps so that it will keep my breasts comfortable.
